In a study published in the October Journal of General Internal Medicine, Katon, et. al. determined that in a large (10,704) cohort of patients with diabetes, comorbid depression was associated with an increase in all cause mortality over a two year period. Notably, there was a 36-38% increase in the risk of mortality, depending on what definition of depression was used.
